Jane Root

Founder & Chief Executive

Jane Root is a leading creative executive producer who has transformed major networks on both sides of the Atlantic, and delivered innovative, acclaimed programming to the content market worldwide in both television and digital. Previously President of Discovery Networks and controller of BBC2, Jane established herself as co-founder of Wall to Wall Television creating a number of hit programs for the British and US markets. In 2008, Jane set up Nutopia and since its launch has created international formats, won awards, achieved record-breaking ratings and pioneered a new genre of television – the mega-doc.

Carl Griffin

Managing Director

Carl is experienced in film and television industries internationally, commencing his career with the James Bond franchise and Channel 4’s, BAFTA and Emmy-award winning drama, A Very British Coup before making feature films for the US majors, in studios and on locations around the world. These include Con Air (Bruckheimer/Disney Touchstone), The Siege (Ed Zwick/Twentieth Century Fox), The Jungle Book (Disney), 61 (Billy Crystal/HBO) and K-Pax (Larry Gordon/Universal Pictures). Based in Los Angeles for 11 years, he has a Law degree and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PWC.

Helena Tait

Chief Operating Officer

Helena has managed and delivered hundreds of hours of content for global audiences, working with most major broadcasters on both side of the Atlantic. After many years at Wall to Wall she joined Diverse as Head of Production in 2006. Although specialising in ground-breaking, award winning specialist factual shows and event television, she has also overseen content production spanning factual entertainment, light entertainment, quiz shows, formats, drama and shiny floor. Helena joined Nutopia in 2010, and oversees company operational activities as well as partnerships, company strategy, staffing, communications and growth in ancillary areas.

Ben Goold

Executive producer

Ben Goold joined Nutopia in 2008 to create the Emmy Award-winning series America The Story of Us, History’s highest-ever rating special, and its successors Mankind The Story of All of Us (History) and The British (Sky Atlantic). Formerly at Wall To Wall and Change Productions, he now oversees a wide slate of Nutopia’s factual projects, including the recent hit series Finding Jesus: Faith. Fact. Forgery (CNN).

Simon Willgoss

Head of Development

Simon heads up Nutopia’s Development department, re-joining the company in 2014 after a stint as Head of Development at CB Films. Simon originally joined Nutopia to develop America the Story of Us for History – which became the network’s highest ever rated special. His recent development and production credits include the Emmy-winning How We Got to Now (PBS), The 1980s: The Decade That Made Us (National Geographic), Mankind (History), and How We Invented the World (Discovery). Simon was named one of Broadcast Magazine’s International Rising Stars in 2015.

Lynne Kirby

Executive producer

Lynne Kirby is currently Executive Producing for Nutopia and Jigsaw Productions. Recent series include Parched: The Water Wars (National Geographic) and Finding Jesus: Faith. Fact. Forgery (CNN). Previously Lynne was EVP at Paperny Entertainment, and before that served over 15 years as a senior executive at such networks as Sundance Channel (where she oversaw several seasons of Iconoclasts, as well as Peabody-winning and Emmy nominated documentaries), Court TV and Discovery.
