The History Channel has commissioned a 20-part World War II doc from Nutopia and A+E Factual studios narrated by Hollywood star Tom Hanks.

The untitled order for the Royal Mob and America: Our Defining Hours indie will feature rare archive to explain the causes and pivotal moments of the war. It will cover the invasion of the Soviet Union, the Holocaust, the battles in the Pacific, Hitler’s response to Pearl Harbor and D-day, and reveals the racism in the US Armed Forces.

The exec producers are Ben Goold and Jane Root for Nutopia, and Sharon Scott and Steve Ascher for A+E Factual Studios. Eli Lehrer and Mary E. Donahue serve as executive producers for The History Channel. A+E Networks will distribute the series internationally.
